Why is it that when you give somebody a gun, they just have to go out and shoot something or someone.....or in this case, a family pet.....

     This dasterdly deed was performed by no other than a Des Moines, Wash. Police Officer.....After failing to tase the culprit, the police officer chose to shoot the dog four times.....as the family dog hid in the corner of the neighbors yard.....

     The Des Moines Police Department will not release the name of the officer nor explain why this officer had to shoot the family pet four times.....

     Seems to the editor of this blog that this so called police officer needs to be charged with felony animal cruelty, discharged from his position, tar and feathered, and run out of town on a rail.....He should not be allowed to own a gun or an animal of any kind, and spend the rest of his life cleaning dog and cat cages at the local SPCA.....

     The question on most peoples minds.....why was the police officer on the neighbors property?     The neighbors said they did not call the police and they knew the dog and said the dog was not aggressive and was extrememly shy and timid.....

     TO THE RESIDENTS OF DES MOINES, WASH......KEEP YOUR PETS UNDER LOCK AND KEY.....IF ONE SHOULD GET OUT A TRIGGER HAPPY POLICE OFFICER MAY BLOW AWAY YOUR PARAKEET!!!!!

MORE ANIMAL SHELTERS CLOSE THEIR DOORS.....

     More private animal shelters are not accepting strays as they fill up with animals abandoned because their owners cannot afford to keep them.....

     No one tracks how many shelters do not take strays but we are seeing more of it, especially with the economy.....

     The shelters are reaching capacity because more people who are losing their jobs or homes are abandoning their cats and dogs.....animals are dropped off by owners or picked up on the street by animal control.....

     Some shelters are choosing not to accept strays because they want to euthanize less animals.....

     Shelters are ending their contracts with municipalities to get stray animals off the street.....

It is especially hard for the smaller towns that may have only one shelter.....some are turning animals over to private kennels or veterinarians to house or put down animals.....

     Shelter officials say municipalities do not pay the full cost of housing a stray animal.....

     Highland Animal Shelter in Highland Ill. a rural coomunity east of St. Louis ended its contract with the city in July because it could no longer afford to care for animals the city brought in.....

     They asked the city for more money but the said they couldn't afford it.....The city paid the shelter about $21,000 a year to take in strays but cost the shelter $18,000 in veterinary bills.....

     AMONG OTHER SHELTERS THAT HAVE MADE CHANGES.....

     The Deleware County SPCA in Media, Pa.

     The Humane Society of North Central Arkansas

     The Louisiana SPCA

     The results of all these changes is going to be felt by the animals that are left behind.....

     There is no other agency to take care of these animals.....

                           SO THEY WILL SUFFER

     Before you decide to abandone your pet, ask about private rescue missions that might be in your neighborhood.....sometimes they get harrased by animal control and like to keep their location secret.....just be patient and ask your friends and neighbors if they know of such a place.....If you live in California and know of people that need help please contact us by e-mail and we will find a rescue mission near you.....

"ITS TIME.....

     Marijuana for recreational use is about to become fact here in California.....

     There are 12+ states that now have medical marijuana laws in effect.....including Wash. DC.....the home of our Federal Government.....the ones who oppose any usage of marijuana, medical or otherwise.....

     The federal Government says they will prosecute anyone breaking Federal law.....But, hold onto your hats folks.....Did you know that the Federal Government has their own medical marijuana law?????  In certain situations the Federal Government will allow use of medical marijuana.....they will prosecute violators of the Federal law at state level while they continue to break their own law.....The laws says....."no marijuana usage at all" .....there are no exceptions to this law....it no where states that the Federal Government is exempt from their own laws.....

     Is the Federal Government prosecuting at a lower level to cover up the fact that they are breaking their own law?????

ARE YOUR VOTING RIGHTS ABOUT TO BE VIOLATED.....AGAIN ?????

     The people of California spoke last voting time to allow medical marijuana usage.....

     THE NUMBERS ARE GETTING HIGHER.....

      Three out of four voters say they favor legalization of medical marijuana and 41% think all marijuana should be legal.....Thats up from 35% in 2008 and 12% in a 1969 Gallup pole.....

     Proponents say legalization would create tax revenues, and also help law enforcement.....law enforcements also supports legalization of marijuana.....they say it will make their job much easier.....Several well know medical associations also support the proposition.....they endorse the use to help cancer patients deal with chemotherapy.....THC is also being probed for anticancer propertys.....

     Backing for marijuana is 61% of all age and ethnic groups.....A clear sign that tolerence is growing.....

     NOVEMBER 2ND IS VOTING DAY.....LETS ALL GET OUT AND VOTE IN PROPOSITION 19.....AND TELL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT "WE THE PEOPLE" HAVE SPOKEN.....THE BIG QUESTION ON THE VOTERS MINDS IS WHETHER YOU WILL ACCEPT THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.....OR AGAIN DENY US OUR VOTERS RIGHTS.....

  Trick or treat day is fast approaching.....kids will be running around in costumes of their choice.....carrying bags of goodies as they scream and yell up and down the street....."trick or treat....."

  Make sure your child has some kind of reflective material in his/her costume.....it makes it easier for drivers to see and avoid hitting your child.....

  And, because there are idiots out there that, for no reason, wants to hurt a child.....please walk along with your child and give him your complete attention down those dark streets.....

  Also, make sure all the candy is safe.....

  Other holidays are also catching up to us again.....Thanksgiving and Christmas are not too far down the road.....

  Winter is fast approaching.....The weather is starting to get colder.....especially in the early morning hours.....if you have any critters living outside, remember to place blankets around the patio so they have a nice cuddly place to sleep.....

  We have two catterys.....one inside and one outisde....the outside is equipped with electric blankets and heating pads and all beds are off the ground....the outside is an enclosed structure.....not too big.....just big enough for about 15 "tribbles....." Each kitty having its own bed.....we also have an outside storage shed that we open up for our feral friends, also equipped with all the essentials to keep warm.....so far there are at least 3 living in there that we have seen.....

MAIN ENGINE FAILURE.....(my computer busted)

It took a while but everything is back to normal.....whatever normal is.....in the time without a computer was very productive....I got some long over due art work finished and on its way to a new home.....HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS is having weekly yard sales to help control the cat population in our neighborhood.....So far the response has been great.

We are also accepting donations of merchandise we can sell at the yard sale.....So far that response has also been great.

The funds are used for the transportation of homeless and feral cats to an organization in Southern California.....an organization called FIXNATION does the 'fixin' for free, all you need to do is schedule an appointment.....provide transportation and gas and be on your way.....

Lets all help to bring the animal population under control, so we don't have to euthanzie so many babys....

We here at HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS knows how much stress an extra pet in the house can be at these troublesome economic times.....but lets not just throw these babys along side the road like their just so much trash....there are rescue groups that will be more than happy to take in a homeless kitty....thats why we take so much guff from animal control....so we can find these baby 'tribbles' a forever home.....

HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS is located in a 'kill zone'.....the annual euthanization rate in Kern County averages over 20,000 a year, with 80% being cats.....

I scan the newspaper about twice a week for ads in the pet section.....90% of what I read is ads for dogs....sometimes I find it hard to find an ad for free kittens.....If you want to know the reason there are no cat ads.....read the previous paragraph.....

Its football season again.....all you armchair quarterbacks get into position.....that means find your most comfy chair, grab a beer or so.....and completly ignore man or beast for the next 8 hours.....Scream and yell, jump up and down.....yell obcenitiys at the other team.....get totally wasted and generally make a complete fool out of yourself....wake up the next morning with a hangover.....and worst of all.....is you can't for the life of you, remember what day it is and....."who the heck won the game....."

JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER.....its hot out there.....so lets be sure a make sure our furry firends have plenty of cold fesh water and a nice place in the shade.....

CYNTHIA GUDGER STRIKES AGAIN.....

Cynthia Gudger was sentenced to five years probation on the condition that she possess no animals for that time.....cooperate with psychiatric care and pay $112,000 in restitution for the Kern County Animal Control investigation.....Gudger had faced up to 13 years in prison for the crimes she had been accused of in Kern County.....She faced 10 counts of animal cruelty based on reports that she was living with 18 dogs and 34 cats in a warehouse animal control officers described as "deplorable"

This seems very unfair to the animals that suffered under her so called care.....it seems that animals no longer have any rights.....

But the answer became clear as I read further into the article.....

It seems that she is to remain in custody on Social Secrutiy fraud case filed in 2004 in Los Angeles federal court.....And she still has animal abuse cases pending in Riverside County.....

This woman has used several other names including a woman reported killed in Iraq.....

The staff at "Homeward Bound Kittens" feels this woman is totally whacky and should be locked up and the key lost in the paperwork.....

Lets do an update on the mission of "HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS".....

You have no idea the storys we have heard and the abuse we have witnessed in the last 10 years we have been rescuing "Tribbles"

TAKE-ALONG-PETS.....

I read an online article about people euthanizing their pets to be buried along with the pet owner if he/she passes away.....

Why would anyone do such a horrible thing to their always faithful, always trusting furry friend and companion.....

Is this the first time this has came to the attention of the pet owners community.....

How long has such a horrible thing been going on.....

How can funeral homes condone such a traversity in the morals of the human race.....

All these questions can be answered in one word.....MONEY!!!!!

The almighty dollar.....

Also, why does the local animal control and the local spca allow such a thing.....anyone doing this should be charged with animal cruelty.....

One final question.....How could a dvm allow such a thing.....to willfully euthanize a perfectly health pet.....

How about charging the vet with felony cruelty to animals.....then revoking his license to practice medicine.....

THE STAFF AT "HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS" ARE IN TOTAL AGREEMENT; THIS SUCKS!!!!!

NOW FOR OUR LOCAL ANIMAL (OUT OF) CONTROL.....

Our local animal control (Kern County) recently raided a kitty rescue mission in a place call Le Bec, Calif.

They seized 260 cats after informing the owners that they had 24 hours to get the 3 sick kittys to a vet or they would never see these animals again..... I think what they are saying is that they will euthanize all of them because there is no room to house all these cats.....

This is a 501k (non-profit) operated facilty and were allowed to house 150.....things got a little out of hand and things began to happen.....

They brought in volunteers to help with the cleaning and every day operation of the facility....

The management of the facilty asked one of their volunteers to please clean the cages more thoroughly to prevent any further disease....

The volunteer took offense in the statement and immediatly informed animal control.....

The American Humane Society has agreed to house 190 and the rest will be distributed our among our local recuers....."Homeward Bound Kittens" is recieving 8-10 to hold for two weeks and then sent to an organization call "FABULOUS FELINES".....in southern California.....This is a great organization.....Homeward Bound Kittens has helped and recieved help.....I can't say enough about these great people who are doing a great job....

Hello out there in blog land.....I got lost for a while trying to keep up with the activity of managing a mobilehome park, a kitty rescue mission, yart sales, this is our name for our spay/neuter sales.....we sell both homemade Barbie cloths and art work (pyrography),  the art of burning on wood.....and anything else we can get our hands on.....this is the way we support our privatley funded program.....and when I say privately funded.....everything is coming out of our own pockets.....maybe as the season progresses our yart sale funds will support us a little better.....

As of right now "HOMEWARDBOUND KITTENS" has all their children "fixed".....Thanks to a "free" spay/neuter program operated by the Kern County animal control.....Bless ya' all.....

On the other hand a lot of problems would be solved if the DVM's of Kern County would donate a "free" day.....oops! theres that four letter word again....."FREE".....I can't figure out why that word scares the you know what of our so called "professional people".....

I don't know for sure how many DVM's there are in Kern County.....Lets take  an educated guess.....350 +/-

If each DVM donated one of their precious days to a free clinic, in 350 days +/- the problem would be well on the way to being solved.....

I'm going to title this bit of news as "JACKASS OF THE YEAR".....I'm not sure whether I should use that word but thats just exactly how I feel, and after you read this you will see my reasoning behind the name.....   

VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA.....A man was arrested for animal cruelty after he tried to drown his dog in a bathtub after he defectated on his rug.....

A neighbor who saw the whole thing tried to rescue the animal by giving mouth to mouth resuscitation and rushing the puppy to a local animal hospital.....

The dog was resusitated with oxygen and its condition stabilized and place in the custody of a animal cruety unit.....

A man who says he couldn't afford vet care for his dog has been charged with operating on his pet.....he recently removed a cyst from the leg of his 14 year old Labrador mix......

The man, a 63 year old, who is disabled and living on social secruity said he used a local anesthetic to operate on the cyst and removed it on his own since he didn't have the money to pay a vet to operate.....some have labled the surgery as a heinous crime.....

If I was a DVM in this city, I would hide my face in shame for not helping this person.....this is probably the only source of friendship this senior citizen gets.....

  Thanks to a very reliable source, I use it that way because thats what the big newspapers say when they hit on a big story.....

The Kern County Board of Supervisors and the Animal Control Commission have finally reached a decision on the current animal control regulations.....the decision.....after 42 months of,what they call bloody debate.....TO THROW IN THE TOWEL.....

To the staff at HOMEWARD BOUND KITTENS, it sounds like nothing has changed.....

Oh!.....Wait a minute.....there has been a change.....the Kern County euthanization rate will hit the ceiling.....QUITE A CHANGE.....It is the personal opinion of this blog editor, that this kind of change sucks.....

I have a great idea.....the next time the board supervisors hold a meeting that they listen to the ideas of the general public.....

FREE SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS.....

How many 'free" spay/neuter programs do you have in your area.....after you stop laughing, you probably came up with the same answer we did.....a big fat "0"

Sure, you have discounted progams, but that doesn't help the needy.....Several entrys back I suggested a "free" program.....but as usual the word "free" scares the you know what out of our politicians.....

Is the word "free" becoming obsolete?

How about a program that requires DVM's to donate one day to a free spay/neuter clinic for the needy, the homeless and a program for senior citizens on a "fixed income"

Have you looked in the yellow pages of your telephone directory under DVM's.....if each one of the DVM's in your area donated a day of their precious time, the animal control problem would start coming more under control.....

There does seem to be one major problem.....the word 'free" isn't in their vocabulary.....

We don't need anymore animal regulation.....we need more animal control.....

Oh well, one can only hope.....HAPPY NEW YEAR YA' ALL.....

Thanks to the LAFD more than 100 dogs are safe after an early morning fire damaged an upscale Hollywood kennel where the dogs were being kept during the holidays.....

An animal care group desperatly needs your help.....The Solano County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty is seeking donations of food, blankets and towels for the 83 purebred pups.....the animals were confiscated after the owners were arrested.....

About 50 dogs rescued from puppy mills in missouri should be finding loving homes on New Yorks Long Island.....In september more then 100 dogs were removed from what officials called an unlicensed puppy mill in mid-Missouri where the dogs were found living in filty conditions.....

Things are starting to get busy around the old homestead so its time to join the group.....

If Kern County Animal Control had to witness attacks by wandering dogs in order to take meaningful action, we may as well forget about it.  Especially if after we call them they don't even want to get out of their vehicle.....

More then 4.5 million Americans are bitten each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Thousands are mauled so badly, they require reconstructive surgery.

And closer to home, the threat of dog bites and loose dogs can affect perceptions of safety in your own neighborhood.  

While pitbulls are clearly a problem as biters, the high number of reported bites by the breed is also a function of its hugh popularity in most neighborhoods.....

With so many pitbulls in area households, its sure to skew the statistics upward.....

But there's also a tendency among some cultures to trian pitbulls to be aggressive.....

Supervise.....Any sign of snapping or growling at family members or strangers could be a sign your dog needs behavioral training.....

THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.....

Pilots save shelter animals.....

Pilots N Paws got its start in Feb 2008.....A Knoxville, Tenn., pilot named Jon Wehrenberg had offered to fly his friend, from her home near Greenville, SC, down to Florida to pick up a dog she wanted to adopt from a rescue group.....Jon asked if there was a regular need for such services.....

The reply....."you have no idea of the need for this type of rescue....."  Rescue groups have long moved animal from high kill shelters around the country, but it usually invloves long, exhausing car trips.....

The Web site for Pilots N Paws now serves as a forum where shelters and rescue groups can hook up with pilots.....

680 pilots have already transported thousands of animals all over the country..... Many were plucked from death row at overpopulated, high kill shelters in southern states, where people are less likely to spay or neuter their pets.....

A rescue animal thats had a living hell for a life and now has a warm and loving home.....they look at you differently.....its just hard to explain.....

Australian cat stray 2400 miles, then returns home.....

Hobart, Australia.....A cat named Clyde was reunited with his owner after a mysterious three-year odessy in which the long-haired Himalayan strayed 2400 miles into the Australin Outback....

The owner said she had given up hope of ever finding Clyde after he vanished when he was about a year old from her family home near Hobart City in Australis island state of Tasmania.....

A nurse found Clyde wandering at a hospital in the remote Queensland state town of Cloncurry and cared for him for four months before taking him to a local vet as she was leaving town and could not take Clyde with her.....

A vet traced Clydes owner from an identification microchip that was embedded under the cats skin.....

But no one has a clue how Clyde managed the 185 mile sea journey across the Bass Strait from Tasmania off mainland Australias southeast coast, and then about more than 2000 miles overland to Cloncurry, deep in the arid interior of the Outback.....

An animal transport company returned Clyde to Hobart for free.....

Its about time to put the keyboard to rest and go sit my rear-end on the couch for some serious tv watching.....

What a let down....."Homeward Bound Kittens" had no tricker treaters this year.....guess I'll have to eat all the candy myself.....well, somebody has to do it.....
